4 Tips for Choosing Proper Motorcycle Apparel

Motorcycle apparel is important for a number of reasons. Motorcycle riders are not as protected as those riding in a vehicle, therefore there must be prepared in the event that something does happen. Things like motorcycle eyewear, motorcycle glasses, motorcycle apparel for men, motorcycle apparel for women and yes even headgear are extremely important decisions. The brand you choose is not as important as the protection it provides. Whether you choose indian aftermarket parts and accessories, harley accessories, victory motorcycle parts and accessories or any other type of parts and accessories, you should ensure that they provide the proper amount of protection for the ride.

Why it’s Important

As stated earlier, those who ride motorcycles are not as protected as other motorists on the road, so proper protection can be the difference between life and death. Helmets are one of the most important decisions motorcycle riders can make. The head liners on helmets are typically strong breaking only about 5% of the time, but the cheekpads on the other hand can eventually wear down with compression to 20%. This means that over time your helmet may not protect you as much as it did when you first bought it. These things are important when you consider that over 75% of motorcycle usage is riding on the road, with other vehicles.

Regular Inspection

Certain parts of your motorcycle are made to break down, no matter how easy you are with them. It doesn’t matter if you purchase name brand parts, harley parts, indian aftermarket parts, or any other aftermarket parts, you should expect certain things to break down. Breaks, for example, heat to excessive temps above 350 degrees, causing the pads and discs temperature to exceed 600 degrees. This means that over time they will eventually fail and need to be replaced and the same goes for your apparel. Your apparel is not designed to last the life of your bike and may need regular inspections and replacement if some parts are not working as they should. Riders should never wear apparel that shows signs of wear as it may not properly protect the rider in the event of an accident.

Quality of Gear

Motorcycle parts are made differently. You can’t expect to get the exact same product with harley parts, victory aftermarket parts, indian aftermarket parts, regular motorcycle parts and the vast majority of other parts on the market. They will all have their pros and their cons. You must weight these pros and cons when choosing parts, and the same things goes with protective gear. You need to figure out what is most important to you and go from there. If style is most important than you may not get as much protection, but if protection is more important than you may not get as much style. If price is most important than you may have to sacrifice both style and protection in an effort to get what you want. Determine what is most important to you and start your shopping from there to get what you want and need.

Type

Determine what type of gear fits your riding conditions. Will you be wearing your gear while riding and while not riding? Will you be wearing it during a certain month? Determining the type of weather you will be wearing your gear in, snow, storms, heat, rain, etc will aid in your decision making. Certain gear is designed to perform better in certain weather conditions. If you are in the heat and don’t want to get hot that should be your focus, but if it rains a lot and you don’t want to get wet you should focus on that.

No matter what type of gear you choose to get make sure to do your research. Just like parts on a motorcycle, harley parts will perform differently than indian aftermarket parts, and the same goes for your protective wear. Figure out what best suits your needs and riding conditions to narrow down your choices. Once you’ve narrowed them down choose the option that suits your needs the best. A little research goes a long way for protection while riding.
